Job title: Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
How long have you worked here: Three years in December.
Please tell us a bit about your job: I conduct 715 health assessments (NB: a specific health check available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) alongside our GP. I also perform immunisations, I support the child health nurse and midwife on home visits, and many other clinical jobs.
What do you love about it: I love that every day is different. My job allows me to move about and not be stuck in the office behind a computer all day. I love being able to help the people in my community.
And what do you find challenging: My biggest challenge was always my confidence. But thanks to support from my fellow staff members, I’ve really grown in my confidence.
What puts a smile on your face at work: The feedback I get from my clients. Many of them have said that Babbingur Mia has changed their lives and that is really heart-warming to hear, knowing that we are making a difference.
What do you love most about this organisation: That every one one of us shares the same passion in wanting to help this community.
What is the most rewarding part of your job: Seeing the progress in my clients’ lives. Seeing someone become self-empowered.
What is your birthday wish for SCHCS: 30 more years!
