Name: Trish
Job title: Dietitian
How long have you worked here: Nine months
Please tell us a bit about your job: I see clients individually to support them with food and nutrition needs. This can be condition specific, like diabetes or IBS management, or more general healthy eating and dealing with emotional eating. I also co-facilitate our Emotional Health & Wellbeing group, and work with other groups within and outside the organisation.
What do you love about it: I love that I get to talk to people about my favourite thing – food! I love hearing about other people’s food cultures and helping them find joy in food and eating. I love the variety that this job offers me – no two days are the same.
And what do you find challenging: Changing the misperceptions about my profession – lots of people think that a dietitian is all about strict rules and rabbit food. This is so far from the truth. If I could get people to understand how much I love food and how much I love helping others enjoy food I think it would make Dietetics so much more available to those who need my support.
What puts a smile on your face at work: Our lead Mental Health Clinician’s “Dad Joke of the Day” never fails to make me laugh.
What do you love most about this organisation: Our people – I am so very fortunate to work with the most incredibly passionate, skillful and inspiring colleagues. I love working in such a supportive and friendly environment.
What is the most rewarding part of your job: When clients tell me how good they feel after making changes – even tiny changes – to their eating or food choices.
What is your birthday wish for SCHCS: For the next 30 years to be full of the same growth and passion that the first 30 have.
