South Coastal Health & Community Services Board Member & Treasurer
As the Treasurer of South Coastal Health and Community Services (SCHCS) and Chair of the Finance and Risk Board Subcommittee I want to emphasize the importance of managing risks in a way that everyone can understand
Though it might seem complicated, it’s crucial to ensure everyone involved – our clients, staff, and partners – stay safe.
What is Risk Management?
Simply put, risk management involves identifying, comprehending, and mitigating potential issues that could disrupt our operations or pose harm. For SCHCS, this means being vigilant about anything that might jeopardize the quality of care we provide or compromise safety.
Risk management is all about identifying, understanding, and lessening potential problems that could affect what we do. This means making sure we’re aware of things that could cause harm or disrupt how we help and support people.
Our organisation deals with many types of risks because we have a lot of responsibilities. Even though risks are part of what we do, we’re serious about managing and reducing them. Our professionals at South Coastal work hard to deal with risks, making care safer and better for our clients by actively addressing potential risks and striving to enhance the safety and efficacy of the care we offer to our clients.
We’ve identified key areas where risks might happen and pay special attention to the following profile areas:
- Clinical – Ensuring the quality and safety of healthcare services provided.
- Compliance and Governance – Making sure we follow the rules and keep things running smoothly.
- Strategy -Figuring out our plans and making them work.
- Our People – Taking care of our clients, workers and stakeholders.
- Workplace Health and Safety – WHS – Keeping everyone safe at work.
- Finance – Managing our money well.
- Operations – Making sure everything runs smoothly.
- Information Technology – IT – Using technology without problems.
- Environmental and Social Governance – Caring for the environment and society.
- Reputation and Brand – Protecting our good name.
To wrap up, while risk management might sound complex, it’s vital for our success and everyone’s safety. Through careful planning, focusing on important areas, and always putting safety first, we’re committed to keeping everyone safe while providing our services. At SCHCS, the well-being of our clients, staff, and stakeholders is always our top priority.
